Nike has announced plans to open a store in the District of Columbia this year.
The retailer will operate a store at 1410 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, in the heart of the nation’s capital, which it has been building for more than 20 years.
Nike plans to begin accepting orders for the store later this year, and it plans to hire about 2,000 people over the next five years to support the store.
The Washington, D.C., location is expected to be the largest Nike retail location outside of Asia, and Nike has invested more than $50 million in the building.
The retailer has previously opened stores in Chicago, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, but has never had a retail location in Washington, which has one of the lowest household income levels in the country and a high cost of living.
Nike also plans to add a new store to the U.K. in 2019.
The company says the store will be open from March through December.
Nike is also expected to open additional stores in Canada, the U-K.
and other countries.
It will be the fourth store in a six-city expansion planned by Nike.
It was announced in December that Nike was opening a store and apparel outlet in Vancouver, B.C.
