Posted by IGN Sports on July 22, 2018 01:59:03TSN has announced the return of the Hockey East Conference after the 2018-19 season.
The league, which is comprised of the top two teams from each conference, will continue with a single championship tournament for the 2019-20 season, with the winner advancing to the 2021-22 season.
As a result, the conference is set to expand to 18 teams, with a maximum of eight teams.
The new format, which will be introduced this fall, will allow teams to compete in a double-elimination playoff series, which are played twice a season, on home ice and away ice.
The league will have the opportunity to expand the competition by adding a third division in 2021-23, with eight teams each from each division playing in the playoffs.
In 2018-07, the Conference advanced to the Frozen Four in the conference championship series, losing to eventual champion Cornell in the semifinal round.
The Hockey East’s final season will be held in Albany, New York, in 2019-2020, with teams from the Atlantic 10 Conference, Atlantic Hockey Conference, Hockey East, Hockey West, MAC, Big Ten Conference and Hockey East-USA taking part.
The conference has an average of 18,000 fans per game.
The 2018-2019 season is the final season for the league.
TSN reported in August that the conference will continue for another season.
